An Out of This World Pet Photography Retreat

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

What better way to break in the new blog than to talk about one of the most exciting things that could happen in 2017. On the 11th February I started the long trek to Costa Rica. You see, I was on my way to Barkarica. Barkarica was held by the very talented Kaylee Greer of Dog Breath Photography, Charlotte Reeves of Charlotte Reeves Photography and Nicole Begley of Nicole Begley Photography (with bonus instructor Sam- thanks Kaylee!) Barkarica promised to be "an out of this world pet photography retreat" and it certainly lived up to that claim.

An incredible crew of pet photographers

I initially received the email notification to say that applications were open, had a look through the website and put it aside. It was a big investment in myself, a very long flight and really I wasn't sure if my skills were up to scratch. These instructors are dog photo goddesses! I have admired them for years. After about 5 days of re-reading that email, the website and daydreaming at work I decided to jump. To take that leap of faith and invest in my future. So I submitted an application along with samples of my work, not thinking I would be accepted. Lo and behold! I was! And am so thankful for it.

It was 5 days of intense learning, laughs, some tears and way too much fun. I don't know what I loved about it more; the location, the instructors, my fellow students, the dogs, the monkeys, the house, the chef. Ok, I'll stop now. Everything was just INCREDIBLE.

Meeting a crew of people equally as passionate about the thing you love is just remarkable. I have not only learnt a tonne of new techniques but am walking away with lifelong friends.
